Strategies for Successful Online Learning

Your attitude, work habits, learning style, and skills all contribute to a successful online learning experience.

Attitudes
· Open-minded, flexible, curious, committed, motivated, independent
These attitudes will serve you well when you are tempted to put off your course work, you have encountered technical problems, communicating with other students, and have an important course deadline to meet.

Work Habits
· Log in regularly to participate in course, use technology properly, take notes as you study, practice concepts, plan time to study and complete assignments, communicate problems to instructor promptly, work with others
These work habits will enable you to make quality contributions in your course. You will have both the freedom and responsibility to commit to your time to at least six (6) hours a week consistently.

Learning Styles
· Active learner, visual learning style
Active learners take initiative, get involved and ask questions. Visual learners must see to understand and learn best by reading and watching. They convert what they hear and read into images. Since online learning emphasizes reading and writing, having these dominant learning styles are beneficial. Remember, online learning is NOT for everyone.

Skills
· Reading, writing, computer, time management, problem-solving, teamwork and research
Making ideas visible via clear writing, discussion board postings and chats is important. Being assertive to communicate needs and following a schedule will aid you in completing assignments.
